Perfect Black Tux

6 Jan

Yves Saint-Laurent came out with Le Smoking in the 60’s, a women’s clothing line inspired by formal menswear. It went on to become a huge success and fashion phenomenon reinventing the definition of women’s style and sophistication.lesmoking

The androgynous look reflected feelings of empowerment and liberation for women. To this day, when I put on a well-tailored suit, I can’t help but walk with my head held high and feel like there isn’t anything I can’t do. Thanks YSL!

Here are some recent interpretations by Dolce & Gabbana, Alexander McQueen, Jason Wu and Ralph Lauren.

Pink & Rose

The raspberry blazer is 100% spot on what my fall wardrobe is currently lusting after. Masculine shape with feminine colour and I’m jumping up and down. If I could swathe myself in pink and rose, my world would look like this.

Layers of Anna Sui

These runway shots from Anna Sui’s 2012 fall collection make me very happy! Beautifully layered dresses with such fun patterns and great leggings. Staples for this fall? Oui oui!

Fast Fashion

If you’re like me and watching the passionate athletes at the Paraolympics in London, you might wonder how much of a competitive edge their competition gear provides. While it’s highly unlikely that if I don a special swimsuit, I’ll be able to compete with top swimmers but when you are one of the best, what you wear just might be the different between coming home with a medal or not.

In 2010, FINA (Federation Internationale de Natation) banned the use of full-body suits in competition which left Speedo scratching it’s head at what to do with their stock of the LZR Racer Suit. This was the suit that swimmers wore when 91 world records were shattered. Remember the medals Michael Phelps won? Yup, he was sporting one of these suits.

Speedo decided to team up with From Somewhere designers to transform these speedy suits into trendy apparel.

And I couldn’t be happier with what they came up with!  My favourite is the full length grey and black body suit in the middle. It’s edgy, it’s innovation and who doesn’t want to be those things?

Pattern party

1 Sep

Huzzah! These photographs are a beautiful celebration and embrace of one of my happiest fancies- patterns.

The result is an eye-catching and powerful portfolio collection that makes me wish it would go on forever. I am especially fond of the background choices; simple backgrounds for those bold outfits and carefully selected patterned backdrops to help enhance a look. You can bet I am combing my closet for patterns to mix together for the fall. Happy weekend friends!

These kids are too great! Confident and rocking some serious style. Gone are the days of school pigtails, jean overalls and frumpy socks – huzzah!

The girl with the pom poms is my fav!
